Meet FCH Leadership Team

Rita Ann Martinez
PresidentRita Ann Martinez is a National Bilingual Catechetical Strategic Sales Consultant for William H. Sadlier, Inc. She is a native Texan, born in the city of San Antonio. Rita has lived and worked in the Archdioceses San Antonio and Galveston-Houston for over 35 years. She has recently relocated back to San Antonio to be with her aging parents. Rita has experience in catechesis as a parish catechist, catholic schoolteacher, and catholic school religion department head. She has worked part time for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. At the parish level Rita has held numerous positions: Pastoral Administrator, Family Faith Formation Director, Director of Religious Education, Coordinator of Religious Education and Youth Director. Rita has served as President of the local chapter of the Association of Catechetical and Pastoral Ministry (ACPM) for 4 years and Vice President for 4 years. Rita was one of the founding members of the national Federation of Catechesis with Hispanics (FCH) and served as Vice President for 6 years. She is currently serving as President of the Federation of Catechesis with Hispanics. He is also in many national communities representing the Federation such as NFCYM, Instituto Fe y Vida and several others.
Rita holds a master’s degree in religious studies from the University of the Incarnate Word, San Antonio, Texas. She holds a bachelor’s degree in religious studies from the University of the Incarnate Word, San Antonio, Texas. She holds several certifications in Pastoral Ministry, a National Certification in Catechesis from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, a National Youth Ministry Certification, and a Quinceañera Certification from the Benitz Center in San Antonio, TX.

Fr. Yojaneider Garcia
Vice PresidentFr. Yojaneider García serves as the Director of the Office of Catechesis and Faith Formation for the Diocese of Paterson, New Jersey, and resides at St. Vincent Martyr Parish in Madison. He holds two master’s degrees (Summa Cum Laude): one in Sacred Scripture and another in Catechesis from Franciscan University of Steubenville. He also serves the diocese as a Censor Librorum. He currently represents the (FCH) in Nuevo Momento, a leadership development program designed to equip individuals to effectively lead Catholic organizations.
Ordained to the priesthood in 2014, Fr. Yojaneider has served in a variety of pastoral and educational roles, including parochial vicar, temporary administrator, seminary teacher, chaplain for Hispanic Ministry, and Spanish instructor. Originally from Colombia, he was formed by the Vincentian Fathers and earned a degree in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Bolivarian University. He also holds certifications in Accounting, Business Administration, and Electronics. Fr. Yojaneider is passionate about evangelization and formation. As he puts it, “Catechesis is a sacred and fundamental task for the Church. I want to contribute to the renewal of catechesis, empowering leaders to embrace the magnificent vocation and mission of the catechist".

Julie Blevins
SecretaryJulie Blevins was the Director of the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston from 2011- 2021. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, she graduated from John Carroll University with a bachelor’s degree in business communications and theology. She served in the United States Army for 8 years. Julie completed her master’s in theological studies from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas in 1993.
Julie has served in 4 parishes of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston for over 35 years as a Director of Early Childhood, Coordinator of Sacramental Catechesis, Director of Youth Ministry, Director of Liturgy and Music, Pastoral Associate, and the Manager of the Archdiocesan Safe Environment Office. W2Julie has been an board member of FCH for 12 years.

Marta Quinones
Finance OfficerMarta Quinones retired in April 2024 where she held the position of Pastoral Associate for the St Peter Church in Columbus, OH. She is from Puerto Rico and has: 1) a bachelor’s degree in accounting, 2) two Masters (Business Administration from University of Columbus in GA and Pastoral Studies from Loyola University, LA. She recently retired and moved to Florida, becoming a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church.
Marta has volunteered and worked in the church for over 40 years. She has experience as a Youth Director, Hispanic Director, Catechist (First Communion, Confirmation, Marriage Retreat, Quinceañeras and RICA). In addition, she is a facilitator for Protecting God Children and Catechist Certificates from Dayton University in Ohio. On a personal note, the mother of two wonderful children and grandmother of the best three grandchildren.

R. Bruce A. Lewandowski
Episcopal VicarMost Rev. Bruce A. Lewandowski, C.Ss.R. has served as a Redemptorist for 32 years and was ordained a priest in 1994. Originally from Toledo, Ohio, he has served in Hispanic Ministry at parishes in East Harlem, the Bronx, and Philadelphia. He also served for several years as Superior/Pastoral Associate at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in St. Lucia, West Indies. Bishop Lewandowski was the Vicar for Cultural Ministries in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia from 2010-15. In 2015, he was assigned by the Redemptorist Provincial to Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Baltimore, Maryland, where he served as pastor until 2020. In 2019, he was appointed the Archbishop’s Delegate for Hispanic Ministry for the Archdiocese of Baltimore. In August 2020, Pope Francis assigned him as Titular Bishop of Croae and Auxiliary Bishop of Baltimore.

Melissa Alvarez
Special Needs and Disabilities ConsultantMelissa Alvarez is Associate Director in the Office of Evangelization & Catechesis for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. She leads the Ministry for Persons with Disabilities and has served the archdiocese for over a decade in various capacities. Those roles include Catholic Schools lead teacher, served in parish religious education and Early Childhood Center Director. She received her bachelor’s in science from the University of Houston and her Master’s degree in Catechesis and Evangelization from Franciscan University at Steubenville. Affiliate with the National Catholic Partnership on Disabilities and member for the Disability Resource Center Advisory Committee for Harris County in the City of Houston.

Ana Barraza
Technology/Communications OfficerAna Barraza is an international bilingual speaker, certified Special Education teacher, Master Catechist, and Catholic author with certifications in Digital Evangelization and Catholic Digital Entrepreneurship. She is part of the Loyola Press Speaker Corps, the head of the Ministry for Catholics with disAbilities for the Diocese of Sacramento, and the Adaptive Faith Formation catechetical leader for her parish. Miguel A. Vences, M.A.
FormationMiguel Angel Vences is associate director of Evangelization and Catechesis of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, which serves more than 1.7 million Catholics in 146 parishes. He is charged with overseeing the formation and certification of catechists as well as the formation of new and experiences parish catechetical leaders in alignment with the Catechetical Framework for Lifelong Faith Formation and the Christ-centric archdiocesan curriculum, developed and promulgated by Cardinal Archbishop Emeritus, Daniel DiNardo.

Marilyn Santos
Board MembersMarilyn Santos is the associate director of the Secretariat of Evangelization and Catechesis at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Previously she served as director of Missionary Education at the National Office of the Pontifical Mission Societies in the United States. She has held leadership positions in youth, young adult, and cultural diversity ministries in the Archdiocese of Atlanta, the Diocese of Brooklyn, and the Diocese of Metuchen. Marilyn was president of La RED, the National Catholic Hispanic Youth Ministry Network and a consultant to the USCCB Secretariat on Laity, Marriage, Family and Youth. She lived as a missionary with the Salesian Sisters in Ecuador.
She has presented workshops and talks at multiple national and diocesan conferences and meetings, including those sponsored by NCEA, NCCL, NFCYM, Archdiocese of Los Angeles Religious Education Congress, and Mid-Atlantic Congress. Marilyn was a guest speaker at the 2017 USCCB Convocation for Catholic Leaders: The Joy of the Gospel in America and the 2019 USCCB V National Gathering.

José M. Amaya
Board MembersJosé M. Amaya is the Director of Faith Formation in the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA. He is responsible for the implementation of the AMS Forming Disciples for the New Evangelization: Archdiocesan Religion Curriculum Guide, the AMS Family Witness to Christ (digital platform for families to grow in faith at home), catechist formation and catechetical leadership development. The Archdiocese serves 1.8 million Catholics at 220 military installations in continental United States and around the world. He holds a Masters of Divinity from Washington Theological Union. He enjoys gardening when he is not traveling around the globe to serve those who serve in the US armed forces.
